Memories are encoded events in time and space. Our brain stores them to influence our future decisions.
The sum of all memories defines our personality and makes us who we are.
However, memories do not only exist on an individual level, but can also exist collectively in cultures.
Pierre Nora (1973) defined through the lieux de mémoire (place of memory) the ability of how certain places, objects or events can stimulate the memory of a group.
Each place can trigger a particular memory in individuals or groups.
Photography is often used to store memory, to keep it alive. But a photograph never shows reality, it is only a two-dimensional representation of a four-dimensional event.
The aesthetic of Photogrammetry Point Clouds (3D Scans) makes an association with memories: fragmented and incomplete, at the same time detailed and vivid.
Universal Memories explores the world of memories, recollection and imagination.
